French-American reaction to DSK

Here are some reactions a Franco/American friend, another Susan, wrote, “just talking off the top of my head.” We went to college together but she’s been living in France ever since.

“The French are always criticizing the American legal system as being geared to people with money, yet they suddenly seem surprised that a African woman could be protected and her words taken into account. The systems are very different and who knows what would have been the outcome if the guy was just a rich person and not a politician.
Badinter said DSK’s wife is a great woman because she supports her husband through thick and thin. That got me angry. How could supporting your husband while he humiliates you (not necessarily by being charged with rape but by being a “chaud-lapin”) make you great. She should have gotten help for him, no. Anyway, that got me mad.”
